Chinese New Year 2012
Dear friends,
2011 is behind us. With the Chinese New Year of 2012 dawning, we would like to convey our best wishes to all of you.
The International Mayor Communication Centre (IMCC) was founded in 1999 in Hong Kong. It is an internationally oriented consultancy with focused on exploring and integrating various resources for urban operations. Our planning philosophy is “Building the whole, with attention to detail”. Through six branded activities: urban operations, inter-city communications, conferences & exhibitions, public media relations, high-end training and capital operations, we ally with international organizations to devote ourselves to facilitating urban communication and development at a global scale.
In 2011, IMCC received significant international recognition for the contributions we made in bringing about communication and cooperation between the Chinese cities/companies and foreign ones. Given great support by UN-HABITAT, UNEP, UNDP, UNESCO, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the China International Friendship Cities Association and other relevant organizations, we carried out a number of successful projects.
In a “low-carbon and green conference” mode, together with the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development we jointly hosted a conference titled the “Six-Party Forum – Road to the UN Rio+20 Summit” in Zhuhai, China, on 19 November 2011. The distinguished guests included the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations as well as Secretary General of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) Mr. Sha Zukang, Mayor of Oldenburg Dr. Gerd Schwandner, the President of International Downtown Association Mr. David Downey, Special Representative of UCLG ASPAC as well as the Director of the European Department of CPAFFC Ms. Zhang Ruoning were cordially invited to take part in this event.
The Director of IMCC Dr. Ching Men Ky and I delivered a speech as the representatives of civil society groups. We carried out a lively discussion with other participants from six sectors including governmental departments, civil society, private enterprises, academic institutions, media and university students on the theme of “Developing a Green Economy and Leading a Low-carbon Life”. We had been advocating a low-carbon mode of “green office, green travel and green conference”. Though the cost is higher, the brochures that we distributed at the conference were made of environment-friendly materials, which was acknowledged by the conference participants. It reflected IMCC’s position as an advocate, promoter and practitioner of sustainable development as well as a responsible international citizen.
In addition, on behalf of IMCC I proposed a “Road to Rio+20” Declaration to support the UN Conference on Sustainable Development that would take place in June 2012. The UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. Sha Zukang and the Director of IMCC Dr. Ching Men Ky were the first to sign the Declaration and the rest of the participants quickly followed them. The Declaration expressed the determination of the Chinese people to push forward the UN Rio+20 Summit.
Thanks to the team’s hard work for the past 11 years, IMCC has become globally renowned. IMCC has maintained relationships with various international authorities and organizations, which has helped in its efforts to develop international connections for Chinese cities. Also, it has helped Chinese cities attract investments worth a total of over 300 billion yuan through economic and cultural communications .
Today, IMCC is well known as an outstanding business consultancy among Chinese and foreign cities. Our name and website is rapidly found on Google and Wikipedia. To better achieve the mission of “To be the bridge for world cultures”, in 2012 IMCC will select locations to set up 10 Sustainable Development Practice Zones to build a brand new urban model with a good ecological environment, healthy living community and green industrial district. As well, we will launch a government-to-business (G2B) e-business platform and adopt the best technology to integrate resources to help urban stakeholders create more value and wealth.
I hope you will continue to support IMCC and that we can work together for a brighter future. We wish all of you a wonderful 2012!
