Dr. Gerd Schwandner, mayor of Oldenburg, Germany has decided to present and deliver a speech at the 2010 Global Mayors Forum (GMF), said in a confirmation letter from the city government of Oldenburg to the GMF Secretariat.

Dr. Gerd Schwandner has been elected the Mayor of Oldenburg since November 2006. The City of Oldenburg is granted the title “City of Science 2009” in Germany. Before that he was Professor of International Management and Marketing Strategies at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Germany since 2000. He also teaches regularly at the D.U. Management d ′Evènements program at IECS (Business School) Université Robert Schuman Strasbourg, France (since 2003) and at the University of Oldenburg (since 2008). His research interests are lifestyle issues, leisure and tourism industry (MICE), entrepreneurship and intercultural communications with a geographical focus on West Europe, North America, East- (China) and South-East Asia. As Mayor of Oldenburg he set up a “China desk” in May 2007 to develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with several Chinese Cities (Tianjin, Xian, Xuzhou, Wuhu, Huaxi) and institutions.
Dr. Gerd Schwandner will deliver a speech at the Parallel Forum themed “Protect and Develop Urban Human and Culture Values, History and Natural System”. Dr. Gerd Schwandner will share with all guests his points of views and Oldenburg’s case studies on the protection and development of urban history and culture, harmonious development of city and natural ecology, etc.
