The Expo 2010 Shanghai UN MDGs Urban Construction Forum, planned by the 2010 Global Mayors Forum Steering Committee, will be held in Beijing on September 3, 2010. Recently, Mayor of Oldenburg, Germany, Mr. Gerd Schwandner, has sent a letter to Secretariat of Global Mayors Forum that he will attend the Forum and make a keynote speech.
Oldenburg is an economic, technological and cultural hub in the northwest of Germany. With an area of 150,000 square kilometers and an population of about 2.5 million, it is known as Weser - Ems District. Oldenburg has its own unrivalled advantages against other cities for its high quality of life. Mr. Gerd Schwandner was elected Mayor of Oldenburg in November 2006. Prior to this, he was Professor of International Management and Marketing Strategies at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Germany since 2000. He also taught regularly at the D.U. Management d ′Evènements program at IECS (Business School) Université Robert Schuman Strasbourg, France (since 2003) and at the University of Oldenburg (since 2008). His research interests are lifestyle issues, leisure and tourism industry (MICE), entrepreneurship and intercultural communications with a geographical focus on West Europe, North America, East- (China) and South-East Asia. As Mayor of Oldenburg he set up a “China desk” in May 2007 to develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with several Chinese Cities (Tianjin, Xian, Xuzhou, Wuhu, Huaxi) and institutions.
