The Expo 2010 Shanghai UN MDGs Urban Construction Forum, planned by the 2010 Global Mayors Forum Steering Committee, will be held in Beijing on September 3, 2010. Recently, Mayor of Durban, South Africa, Mr. Obed Mlaba,has sent a letter to Secretariat of Global Mayors Forum that he will attend the Forum and make a keynote speech.
Durban (Zulu: eThekwini, from itheku meaning 'bay') is the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal and the third largest city in the country. With a population of almost 3.5 million, Durban is also a beautiful coastal city and the best management city in Africa. Durban is famous as the busiest port in Africa, the gateway to other countries ranging from the African continent to the Indian Ocean. Moreover, the golden beaches, lush palm trees, warm subtropical climate and the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean form Durban into an international tourist destination and a conference center.
Incumbent Mayor Obed Mlaba was first elected in 1996 and has been serving another two terms till now. Mr. Obed Mlaba holds Master Degree of Business Administration (MBA) .Before his official career, Mr. Obed Mlaba has extensive experience in the field of human resources and strategic market management. After serving as mayor, he has successfully developed Durban into an international tourist destination, a famous harbor and a conference centre.
