In response to an invitation from the People’s Liberation Army (Hong Kong), the IMCC took charge of the creation of the Hong Kong Central City Model, displayed at the PLA Headquarters in Hong Kong. The People’s Liberation Army (Hong Kong) is dedicated to protecting Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability. Due to its professional leadership, it wanted to ensure that the model would reflect cutting edge understanding of metropolitan culture. As such, it recruited IMCC as an expert in communication about urban culture to develop this project with professionalism, accuracy and an understanding of the values of the PLA. IMCC was dedicated not only to addressing the technical challenges involved in creating a model, but also to understanding and reflecting the current character of Central. The Central District is situated at the heart of the Hong Kong Island, and is Hong Kong’s main business centre. The development of international finance, trading, business and efficient city public transport systems are key factors in Central’s image. In specialized urban places like Central, political power, economic strength, cultural communities and personal ambitions intertwine, inter-react, and in time, forming a catalyst for development. The IMCC recognized the prominence of Central and economic catalyst. The city model was made specifically to reflect the predominance of the Central region. The model is more than just a simple series of replicas of skyscrapers. IMCC incorporated the essence of the Hong Kong Central into the details of the model. Like a film production, a sense of the city’s reality is integrated into the display, with Central’s daylight prosperity and dazzling nightscapes exhibited. The People’s Liberation Army (Hong Kong) was so moved by IMCC’s vision that the Central City model became a compulsory “landscape” to be visited by National leaders when inspecting the army. Additionally, national politicians have also praised the affinity of the model to the feel of the real city. The IMCC not only “observes” the pulse of the city but also “understands” it. The pulse of the city is reflected in the city’s various appearances; and the understanding of the city allows us to see the culture that lies beneath.
