As China was about to become a member of the WTO, the International Fair Planning Center (HK),later IMCC, and the Hong Kong Newspaper Ta Kung Pao, jointly organized the International Symposium (Hong Kong) on the Standardization of the Chinese Accounting Industry between 11 - 12 September 2001. The forum aimed to provide an opportunity for direct communication between the Chinese financial, auditing and accounting agencies, accounting firms and Chinese companies on understanding international accounting standards. Participants gained a better understanding of the international standardization of the Chinese accounting industry to help accelerate the execution of the standardization, preparing Over 140 persons attended the Symposium, including senior management from the British Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, directors and financial controllers of medium-sized enterprises, financial and auditing officers with Chinese municipal governments, and chief accountants with securities and investment companies.
