Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Gernischt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Risling, Riesling, Carnelian, Alicante Bouschet. Such charming names aptly portrait the strings of divine jewels on the autumn grapevines.
Whilst on this subject, does this remind you of the ripening grapes in Turfan Do the luscious wines wake your memories of the delightful Europe Or are you more interested to dwell in the flavours of the ancient poems of the Tang Dynasty, whereby beauteous wines glitter in the glowing white jade cups and sounds of the pipa urges the poet to taste and enjoy?
Yet there is one special place, whether for the cultivation of fine grapes or fermentation of magnificent wines, it integrated the best methods of the East and the West, as well as inheriting skills from the past and present. This wondrous place is Penglai.
Penglai Nava Valley of China, along with Bordeaux Haut-Medoc of France, Toscana Valley of Italy, Napa Valley of the USA, Casablanca Valley of Chile, Barossa Valley of Australia, Cape Town of South Africa, are heralded as the “Seven Grape Coasts of the World.”
In addition to the participation in the overall city blueprinting of Penglai City, IMCC also promotes the internationalization of the grape and wine industries of the city, especially in the aspects of exchange and cooperation between Penglai and other famous wine-producing grapevines of the world.
Cabernet Sauvignon originated from the Bordeaux region in France, and is an outstanding type of traditionally fermented local red wine. It was imported into China by Yan Tai Chang Yu Company in 1892 and has since been much loved by the Chinese nationals.
Under grapes and great wines, the IMCC has an apprehension beyond its tastes; the tradition lies with the barrels in the cellars, the mellow sweetness of the matured wines and the urge to have these shared with all nations. Through painstaking coordination and arrangements, IMCC initiated the first encounter of the Eastern fragrance with the Parisian romance in liaising Penglai with Bordeaux.
A date was set in 2005 and the date took place at the CCTV International Channel. Witnessed by many, Penglai and Bordeaux, the world’s famous coastal vineyard cities, finally met in the real-time interactive program, “Meet China”. Liu Shuqi, Secretary of CPC Penglai Municipal Committee, and Jacques Valade, Mayor of Bordeaux, had a warm conversation, fervently discussed the development trends of the grape and wine industry, as well as in-depth discussions on the mutually beneficiary cooperation between the two cities.
At the end of the program, Secretary Liu Shuqi and Mayor Jacques Valade both expressed that both cities have something learn form each other and will cooperate with integrity, whilst letting Penglai to become the Bordeaux of China, and Bordeaux, Penglai in France.
This international conversation boosted the friendship between Penglai and Bordeaux, and marked a good start for the industrial cooperation and tourism exchange between the two cities. Meanwhile, Penglai has displayed her charisma as a coastal vineyard city to the international community and developing an international market in tourism and in the grape and wine industry.
Waves of the Pacific gently embrace its Eastern and Western coasts. Red wines, whiskeys and brandies with a dash of lemon, guava, tonic or a beer, the different combinations swishing in a tall glass then sealed by a kiss, is perhaps a classic for some. Yet Penglai and California is another classic, as much as “California Dreaming” is the classic of all times.
In September 2005, IMCC invited the delegation from Penglai to visit New York and attend the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Foundation of the United Nations and special activities on World Peace Day. Through a series of public relation events, the international popularity of Penglai as the Holy Peace City has greatly increased; and much recognition in the United Nations and the international society was gained. Yet, these were all but a beginning.
Napa Valley, California, USA – One of the Seven Grape Coasts of the World
Penglai, Shandong, China – One of the Seven Grape Coasts of the World
Between these two coasts, there lies room beyond imagination, impossibilities that can be made possible.
IMCC has noticed these hidden currents of the Pacific and arranged for the Penglai delegation to visit the Napa Valley, and the visit to the Californian Society of Grape Wines with the lingering laughter and comforts of the vineyards and wine industries. Such fragrant wines and laughter had even attracted a Congressman, who met with Secretary Liu Shuqi of CPC Penglai Municipal Committee.
From this trip to California in the US, Penglai has a deeper understanding of the grape and wine industry in the United States and gained much useful experiences while establishing friendly partnerships with the local counterparts. All in all, this trip allows Penglai to explore and expand into another international network and market for the grape and wine industry.
