Improve quality of education on climate change, consummate policy of green life consumption, and encourage participation of all people!

微信图片_20230221090731.png

According to the global survey report “Youth demands for quality climate change education”, 70% of young people questioned the quality of education on climate change they received. 27% of respondents could not explain what climate change is, 41% could only explain broad principles, and 2% knew nothing about it. One in five respondents also said that they were not ready to deal with climate change according to the knowledge they learned in school. 60% of the young people interviewed pointed out that they learned about climate change mainly in the classroom, but they were tired of passive learning and “making posters about climate change”.

Therefore, improving the quality of education plays a key role in addressing climate change. In addition, among the many sources of our lifestyle emissions, the most important ones are travel, housing and food, accounting for 17%, 19% and 20% of the lifestyle emissions respectively. This also means that the above areas have great potential for emission reduction.

We should also take the cultivation of low-carbon lifestyle as an important indicator to improve the living environment and enhance the level of social civilization, widely publicize and advocate the concept of simple, moderate, low-carbon, civilized and healthy life, establish and improve the relevant policies and management systems to promote green life consumption, and form a new situation for all people to participate and act!

微信图片_20230221090737.png

At present and in the future, China’s adaptation to climate change still faces many challenges. First, the basic work is relatively weak, and the awareness of the whole society to adapt to climate change needs to be strengthened. Second, the governance system needs to be improved, and the working system of “climate system observation - impact risk identification - adaptation action - action effect assessment” has not yet been formed. Third, the existing actions are insufficient, and the ability of key areas and regions to adapt to climate change needs to be improved.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment will focus on the national strategic deployment, adhere to active, scientific, systematic and collaborative adaptation, work with relevant departmentsto further strengthen the overall guidance, communication and coordination, and promote the preparation and implementation of provincial plans for the action of adaptation to climate change. At the same time, China will actively expand international cooperation in adapting to climate change, fully learn from international experience, and improve the country’s ability to adapt to climate change.

China will strive to basically form the policy system and institutional mechanism for adaptation to climate change and effectively improve the level of assessing adverse impacts and risks of climate change by 2025; By 2030, the technical and standard system for adaptation to climate change will be basically formed, and the adaptation to climate change in all fields and regions will be fully carried out; By 2035, the ability of the whole society to adapt to climate change will be significantly improved, and a climate adaptive society will be basically formed.
