The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development covers 17 goals, the fifth of which is "gender equity", namely: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.  (Click here for details)

Under this major goal, there are nine targets, the eighth of which is “Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women”.

17% Gender Gap in Internet Use

Despite information and communication technology playing such a key role throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, half the world remains offline, most of whom are women and girls in developing countries. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) data, there is a 17% gender gap in Internet use globally, which is even wider in least developed countries.
