Specialized Agencies for Women

The United Nations defined Gender Mainstreaming as a global strategy to promote gender equality at the fourth World Women Conference in 1995. Since then, most countries and regions in the world have responded to the request of the United Nations and raised the promotion of Gender Mainstreaming to the national political will. They have explored from the levels of government agencies, legal protection and policies that constitute the national mechanism, and started from the top to promote gender equality and women's development. In response to the needs of gender equality and women's development, all countries in the world have set up specialized agencies and departments for women, which has laid the foundation of an increasingly well organized national mechanism for gender equality.

Independent United Nations Agencies for Women
On 2 July 2010, the United Nations representatives voted unanimously to establish an independent United Nations agency committed to accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is the United Nations Agency for gender equality and the empowerment of women (UN women), which is a combination of four global agencies and offices: the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UN women), the Division for Advancement of Women, the Office of Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for Advancement of Women (INSTRAW).
Sustainable Development Goal 5, "achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls", is a separate goal for gender issues and is committed to addressing all gender inequalities. We need to go deep into the legal and legislative areas and make changes to protect women's rights around the world.
