About the World

Accelerate Pace of Energy Transformation

Improving energy efficiency is regarded as the cornerstone of energy transformation in world energy development trend. In the context of ensuring energy security and taking climate action, countries are accelerating the pace of energy transformation. Many countries take energy efficiency improvement as the primary choice of energy transformation, set higher energy efficiency improvement targets and introduce more active energy efficiency policies.

Energy consumption in major developed countries has stabilized or even declined. Many countries has set their long-term energy-saving targets. The EU proposed to rely on energy conservation to improve energy efficiency. By 2050, energy consumption will be expected to lower 32% to 41% compared with that in 2005.

About China

Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction for Climate Action

China has been implementing the revolution strategy of energy production and consumption, which indicates that by 2030, the total energy consumption shall be controlled within 6 billion tons of standard coal, the energy consumption per unit of GDP (current price) shall reach the current world average level, and the energy efficiency of major industrial products shall reach the international leading level.

Energy conservation and energy efficiency is an important prerequisite for achieving the goal of building a beautiful China and taking climate action. In coping with climate change, energy conservation is the most potential and economic way to reduce emissions, and the main way to realize China's independent contribution to coping with climate change in 2030.

Transformation of Energy Saving Refrigeration

The Report on Emissions and Policies of Refrigeration Systems jointly issued by the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Energy Agency (IEA) calls for the avoidance of up to 460 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the next 40 years if concerted global action is taken to promote the transformation of energy-saving and climate friendly refrigeration.

The Report lists policy options that can make refrigeration part of climate and sustainable development solutions, including active international cooperation to ratify and implement the Kigali amendment to the Montreal Protocol. It formulates the national refrigeration action plan to accelerate the transition to climate friendly refrigeration, minimum energy efficiency standards and energy efficiency labels to improve the efficiency of refrigeration equipment. It promotes building codes and other considerations to reduce the demand for refrigerant and mechanical refrigeration, including integrating regional and community refrigeration into urban planning, improving architectural design, promoting roof greening and planting trees in cities.

Green Development Model in Denmark

Denmark is one of the most energy-efficient countries in the world with the most advanced heating technology. The widespread use of district heating and cogeneration is one of the main reasons for Denmark to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the past few decades.

Danish government provided subsidies to heating enterprises so that companies Enterprises have subsidies for using cogeneration and renewable energy. For example, power generation using biomass fuel can receive a subsidy of 20 euros per megawatt hour. Danish government also improves the participation of enterprises and the public through tax and price leverage. The coal, oil and natural gas for heating are charged with corresponding fuel tax, while there is no tax on power production, which promotes the transformation of heating plants to cogeneration power plants to reduce payment of fuel tax.

About China

Lenovo Green and Low-carbon Technology

Lenovo's practices in the fields of low-temperature solder paste, low-carbon green manufacturing process, energy-saving design such as cryogenic nitrogen production, and promoting the formulation of scientific carbon goals in the supply chain were selected as one of the excellent cases of global advanced enterprises in the digital information industry.

Lenovo Group joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2009. It is also the only high-tech manufacturing enterprise in China that has joined the scientific carbon goal initiative and set scientific carbon goals. In the past 15 years, Lenovo has not only reduced the impact on the environment through its own emission reduction and driving the emission reduction of upstream and downstream suppliers in the industrial chain, but also actively exported technologies, services and solutions. Its hardware and software help thousands of industries realize green and low-carbon transformation, and contributed to achieve the vision of "2030 carbon peak and 2060 carbon neutrality".

Midea’s Outstanding Contribution in Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection

In the past decade, Midea cooperated with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization on the project "Leading Residential Air Conditioning Industry to A More Environmentally Friendly Road". The project aims to replace the environmentally harmful refrigerant HCFC-22 with low-carbon and environmentally friendly propane (R-290). According to the data of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the environmental protection refrigerant project has gradually replaced 13.2 tons of ozone depleting substances, and reduced 967,490 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

●  Background

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Initiated by the United Nations

On 1 January, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 169 targets, of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force. Countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
